Rum is an alcoholic beverage obtained from the alcoholic fermentation of molasses and other by-products of sugar production and subsequent distillation. Rum is a secular drink, with refined characteristics and a mild aroma.
Made from fresh crushed cane or its molasses, the drink began to be appreciated in the 17th century, when it was publicised as a powerful medicine capable even of "exorcising the demons of the body". Tequila is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from the blue agave primarily in the region of the city of Tequila in the Mexican state of Jalisco, 65 kilometres northeast of Guadalajara.
Tequila is often made with an alcohol content of 38-40%, but can also be produced with an alcohol content between 31-55%.
